From bucket to fire engine
What to do in case of fire? In Amsterdam they had come up with a solution in 1413 already: 'Shout out loud the words Fire, Fire, Fire!' The city had over 12,000 buckets at its disposal. You can discover many more facts in the National Fire Brigade Museum, which has a unique collection of fire fighting equipment from around 1550 to date.

Bicycle-pedestrian ferry between Hoek van Holland and the Maasvlakte
A bicycle-pedestrian ferry service runs between Hoek van Holland and Maasvlakte II between May and September. The crossing is quite an experience, thanks to the impressive ships that pass by. The stops are located at Berghaven in Hoek van Holland, and at FutureLand on the Maasvlakte. If you want to learn more about the ports of Rotterdam, you've come to the right place at FutureLand. You can go on lovely bicycle rides from both ferry service stops. If you get off at the Maasvlakte, a trip to Brielle or Oostvoorne is highly recommended. Are you heading to Hoek van Holland? Then be sure to visit the pier or follow the route through the dunes, towards Scheveningen.

Discover the harbours and Maasvlakte 2
A visit to the free FutureLand Information Centre will tell you all about the development of the Rotterdam harbour. At Maasvlakte 2, you can see the largest container ships and state-of-the-day container terminals with your own eyes! There is always something to do in the information centre's interactive environment. For example, take a 3D trip through the new harbour area. Would you rather see the harbour with your own eyes?
