Learn all about the history of Camp Westerbork

A visit to the Memorial Centre Camp Westerbork is educational and impressive. This museum tells you all about the life of victims and survivors of the camp. Exhibitions with personal stories and films make the story of camp Westerbork suitable for children as well. Additionally, many activities are organized in the museum and walking routes have been plotted over the entire terrain.

For nine years already, the Boomkroonpad at the Boswachterij Gieten Borger has been a special attraction. Where else in the Netherlands is it possible to experience the forest as uniquely as here? From the carrot-tunnel up to the watchtower, at the Boomkroonpad the forest never gets boring! Exloo, a rural village on a hill called "De Hondsrug", has, as one of the last in the Netherlands, their own sheep herd. The sheep travel to the heather plain het "Molenveld" every day, and back to the sheepfold at the farm in Exloo. Watch out also for the dogs that steer the whole thing.

Discover hundreds of butterflies at the butterfly-paradise

Close to the natural reserve De Havelterberg, just outside the pretty village of Havelte, lies Butterfly-Paradise Papiliorama. Butterfly-Paradise Papiliorama belongs to one of the biggest indoor butterfly-gardens in all of Europe. Within the more then 900 square meter big glass house several hundred butterflies fly every day, from different regions in the whole world. Colourful jewels of nature fly freely around the visitor who in turn can watch them and take pictures.

Belvédère Natural Museum

Belvédère Museum is located at the edge of the historical forested landscape park Oranjewoud. The museum is the home of Frisian and North-Netherlands artists and strives to display their work in relation to the work of kindred spirits from the Netherlands and abroad. The museum has two large exposition halls and a central museum cafe that offers a view of the Oranjewoud Estate, the former country house of the Dutch royal family.

Put on your skates and hop on the rink of Thialf. On the track where top-class athletes broke records, you can skate a round for yourself! This includes the famous 400-meter track, a 333-meter track and the scribble track for the very little ones. Afterwards, hot chocolate is waiting for you to warm you back up.

Sub-tropical waterpark Swimfun always offers entertainment. Feeling adventurous? Then swish down the slide with a beautiful starry sky or down the 50-meter-long Magic Oval.
